150 Years of Swiss Railways 1847 - 1997

Celebrations to mark the anniversary took place throughout Switzerland during 1997. The events staged were varied and included station parties, static exhibitions of locos and rolling stock and special trains hauled by vintage electric or steam locos. Two of the highlights of the year were the mega-exhibition of locomotives in Lausanne in June and the special trains run over the Gotthard route in August and September. All the photos on this page were taken by me during these events and have been copied from the original 35mm slides. There is some loss of quality but I hope that they will still be of interest to Swiss railway enthusiasts. A number of the locos appearing in the photos can be found in model form on my layout, a good way for me to remember my visits during that very special year.
