125th Anniversary of the Gotthard Railway (Part 2)
|
The official Gotthard anniversary was on 6th September 2007. SBB Cargo Re484 021 was named "Gottardo" to celebrate the event and a wreath was laid at the Gotthard Tunnel memorial in Airolo. In this photo, taken at Faido, the newly named loco is seen with Re484 013 hauling the special train carrying VIP's to a banquet in Bellinzona. |

On the 8th September SBB C5/6 no. 2978 operated a special train from Erstfeld to Bodio. As can be seen from this photo a rather spirited departure from Erstfeld made both still and video photography very difficult. |
As the final coach of no.2978's train passes, the "Limmat" replica loco approaches on one of its trips between Erstfeld Depot and Amsteg. |

In this shot the C5/6 has just left Airolo and is starting the descent of the south ramp. The green Re4/4 ll that piloted the steam loco through the Gotthard Tunnel was switched to the rear of the train at Airolo. |
Also on the 8th September, German locos nos. 01202 and 011066 operated a Eurovapor/IGE Bahntouristik special over the Gotthard. The locos are seen here near Airolo on their journey between Erstfeld and Bellinzona with ex-BT Be4/4 no.14 providing additional braking power at the rear. After a pause at Bellinzona the train continued on to Locarno with 01202 and no.14 |

|
On both the 8th and 9th of September additional trains, employing motive power not normally used on Gotthard passenger services, carried visitors between the exhibitions at Erstfeld and Biasca. Here "Cisalpino" liveried Re484 013 passes Faido with one such working on 9th Sept. |
SBB Cargo Re620 055 "Cossonay" hauling another of the additional trains at Faido on 9th Sept. Until being transferred to the cargo sector these locos were regular performers on Gotthard passenger trains. |
