125th Anniversary of the Gotthard Railway

A number of special events were held in 2007 to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the opening of the Gotthard Railway. The photos on this page show the special trains which ran on the 31st May and the 1st/2nd June and also the small open-day at Erstfeld.

Part 2 covers the exhibition held at Erstfeld on 8th/9th September 2007 together with some of the special trains operating over the Gotthard line that weekend whilst the exhibition in Biasca and more of the special trains are shown in Part 3.

Many of the freight trains that use the Gotthard enter Italy via Luino and this station was also celebrating its 125th anniversary on 8th/9th September. A special train service operated between Biasca and the exhibition at Luino and Part 4 shows some of the locos that were on display there.
